The Freezers' artist residency programme offers theatre makers, performance artists, dancers and musicians the opportunity to develop and work on their art in a secluded and peaceful environment, right opposite the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier which has been a source of inspiration for artists all over the world for centuries.
At The Freezer there are two homemade and very roomy studio spaces to be used by visiting artists. The smaller one is a 100m2 elongated space that used to serve as the actual freezer of the fish factory. The larger space is 240m2 and was used as a packing and storing space in its past life. At our disposal are also all basic technical equipment required for rehearsals and performance making.
At the end of each residency period the artists present their work to the guests of the hostel, other visiting artists and interested members of the local community.
The residency programme operates on an exchange system. We offer the artists free accommodation, our spaces and our facilities an in turn the artists help out with the daily cleaning of The Freezer, 2-3 hours of work per day, depending on the time of year and number of artists.
We are always looking for exciting artists to work with. To apply, just send us your CV, proposal and portfolio and we will get back to you.
